The restoration of SV Bjørghild began in 2006 and progressed through several distinct phases. The work commenced with the replacement of nearly all of the ship’s frames, followed by the installation of completely new underwater planking. The interior structure was thoroughly renewed, including the ceiling, stringers, and clamps. Above deck, the deck fittings and housing were rebuilt, while the deckhouse and wheelhouse were constructed anew, a process that also required partial renewal of the deck and its supporting beams.
Below deck, the interior was completely overhauled, including new electrics and plumbing. A new engine, gearbox, and steering system were fitted, along with a modern anchoring system. The vessel’s electrical capabilities were significantly upgraded with the installation of advanced electronics, an inverter, power storage, and solar panels. Finally, a new main mast was stepped and the ship’s ballast was redistributed.
Today, the ship is fully operational, though as with any project of this scale, the work is never truly finished.

Planking
Planking is renewed with 50mm oak according to Norwegian Veritas rules .
The planks are attached to the frames by 4000 traditional oak treenails.
Ceiling, Stringers and clamps
Clamps (or Shelf Clamps): These are not planks in the traditional sense, but heavy, longitudinal timbers mounted inboard of the frames, specifically at the level where the deck beams will sit. They provide the primary support for the ends of the deck beams. This is a critical structural member.
Stringers: Similar to clamps but located lower in the hull. They are substantial longitudinal timbers fitted inboard of the frames to provide extra strength and prevent the hull from “panting” (flexing).
Upper Ceiling (or Spar Ceiling): The ceiling planks located higher up, along the topsides
